Sometimes, when you lose your job, a better opportunity opens up, especially if you’re a very excellent boy like Ozzie the German shepherd!

That is correct. Ozzie was born and raised to be a police dog for the Queensland Police Service in Australia, but it was quickly discovered that he was not meant to pursue criminals. Thankfully, the Brisbane Airport snatched up this unique canine for a crucial function – frightening birds and other wildlife away from the aircraft on the runway.

Bird strikes are no joke! About 10,000 wildlife-aircraft collisions are recorded annually by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States, with nearly 100% occurring during takeoff or landing. Thanks to hardworking dogs like Ozzie, the birds have flown the coop, so to speak, ensuring the personnel and guests’ safety at the airport.

It is a new profession that suits this exceptional dog well. However, you cannot do this task alone. Therefore, he works closely with his handler Jackson Ring. Not only do they work together, but they also live together.

Before Ozzie joined the squad, the airport employed automobiles with sirens and fireworks to dissuade the birds. However, this strategy ceased to be effective when the birds adapted to the loud sounds.

Having Ozzie present aided in improving the situation. Birds no longer approach the airplanes, thus he must be doing an excellent job. Good done, Ozzie!

Ozzie will continue to perform good work for the airport as long as he receives a ball as a form of reward. The dog’s favorite activity is playing with a ball. Ozzie is still very enthusiastic to play ball after a day spent chasing birds. A fantastic finale to any dog’s day.

We want Ozzie’s fur parent to know that although he did not succeed as a police dog, he did quite well for himself.
