As bushfires burned across rural Corryong, Victoria, Australia toward a family farm, a border collie mix named Patsy heroically rescued her owner’s flock of sheep.

In some footage, Patsy was seen sitting on the charred ground, with the rescued sheep bleating in the background. The sister of Patsy’s owner, Cath Hill, can be heard praising the dog for a job well done. She tells Patsy that the sheep that are still bleating is all because of the dog’s effort. She even called the dog a little champion and a good girl.

Patsy, a 6-year-old border collie mix, showed off her intelligence, strength, and nerves of steel by doing what needed to be done on that fateful morning of New Year’s Eve. Border collies are renowned for their intelligence. Patsy maintained her composure, rounded the sheep, and led them to safe pasture while her owner drove a tractor equipped with a water tank into the blaze to save the hay, a shed, silage, and the farmhouses.

As this was happening, people believed Patsy and her owner were already dead since they have not seen any sign of the dog and her owner even while the fires were blazing. In the footage alone, you can see the mountain and the farm were engulfed in flames.

Recent wildfires in Australia are at the forefront of global consciousness. And Patsy’s story has gone viral, increasing awareness of the tragedy.

The owner of Patsy is reluctant to use social media, but Hill has been posting to draw attention to the awful situation. Hill said that she never thought that a video that lasted for only 20 seconds and showed the dog’s heroics would become a viral video. She also said that she believed this was her way of helping her hometown start over again after the fires.
