It’s a fact that dogs have been proven to have a therapeutic and healing effect on humans.

Dogs can help in lowering cortisol, the stress-inducing hormone in the body, and blood pressure. They can also reduce loneliness, boost someone’s mood, and increase feelings of security and comfort. Dogs can indeed help individuals to get back to their everyday lives.

One dog from the United Kingdom has proven that he can help his fur dad to wake from his coma.
Andy Szasz adopted a dog in 2012 and named it Teddy. Later on, Andy was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Thankfully Andy was able to beat cancer and live a life in remission, thanks to Teddy, who helped him recover and battle with the deadly disease.

Five years later, he would be diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia. This time, doctors need to induce a coma for a week for Andy to help him with his recovery.

Estelle, Andy’s mom, has thought of bringing Teddy to the hospital to help Andy with his quick recovery; anyway, the dog has been instrumental in her husband’s improvement years ago.

After securing a medical clearance from the hospital, Estelle brought Teddy to Andy’s room. Teddy barked out loud, hoping to wake Andy from his induced coma.

Miraculously, Andy opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was his beloved dog, Teddy! Teddy jumped on the bed to greet his favorite human. He can’t stop wagging his tail while kissing Andy.

Andy woke up three days early of the seven-days induced coma!

Because of Teddy’s heroic deed, he was given an Animal Award by the U.K.’s Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

Andy would always tell the people that he rescued Teddy, and Teddy rescued him too. Oh, so sweet words to hear!

Get well soon, Andy!
