Passionate Rescuer Saves Chained-Up Dogs Living In Abandoned Building

Robert Altermoser is a Bulgarian that has a deep passion for saving stray dogs. He traveled across Eastern Europe, transferring from one dog shelter to another volunteering his services. After saving up some money, he decided to go full-time as a rescuer. He went back to Bulgaria and started his own organization.

Robert has seen many desperate situations involving stray dogs. But perhaps his most heartbreaking rescue to the date is one where he rescued a house full of chained-up dogs and puppies.

One dog at a time

Robert discovered the dire situation of the abandoned dogs when he noticed several pooches entering an abandoned building. This was not new to him. There are several abandoned buildings in Bulgaria, and he knows dogs usually find shelter in them. He followed the dogs inside to assess what he needs to do. When he got inside, he was shocked at what he saw.

Robert saw several dogs chained to the wall, neglected by their previous owners. There were also puppies loitering around. The dogs looked very hungry and scared. Thankfully, they were not aggressive. Robert decided to make a plan.

First, he went to the local authorities and told them his plank. He wanted to go inside the buildings and rescue them. He is going to take them to his shelter and foster them while looking for people to adopt the dogs. The police agreed.

Armed with a boltcutter, Robert and his partner Neal went back to the abandoned building. They first took the puppies out and then cut the chain of the mother. They put them in cages and brought them back to their shelter. They then went back and freed the dogs one by one. They took them back to their shelter too.

There the dogs were given food and medical treatment. They stay in crates at night, but in the morning, they take walks and run around in their ten-thousand-meter property. The dogs are now happy and living in better conditions. Some of the puppies have even been adopted already. Hopefully, all of them would find forever homes.
