Animal shelters give opportunities to people who want to help and support animals in need. One animal shelter called the Virginia Beach SPCA always accepts donations which gave a nine-year-old girl named Caroline a chance for her charity work to flourish.

It all started when Caroline had a passion for baking and helping animals. When the Virginia Beach SPCA had problems with raising funds, she realized her passion could help the shelter’s fund problem. She thought of an idea to start a fundraiser where she bakes a couple of goodies to help raise money for the shelter.

Missy Wetherington, Caroline’s mother, saw how dedicated her daughter was to her fundraiser and supported her all the way.

Caroline started baking her delightful doggy treats in large sizes, and she packed them in large and half-sized bags. Her large-sized bag of treats cost 10 dollars, while the half-sized bags cost 5 dollars. From that, she named her fundraiser Caroline’s Barkery.

When Caroline’s Barkery was up and running, tons of customers came and bought her treats. The number of buyers she had kept on rising, including her profits, allowed her to raise a total of 946 dollars before the year 2020 ended.

Her charity work was a success, and she was very proud. The commitment and perseverance she had for helping the VB SPCA shelter led her to receive the 2021 KCA’s Canine and Me award for Community Achievement.

Now, Caroline has a new goal where she aims to raise 1,000 dollars. But with all her customers supporting her, she surpassed her goal and raised 2,000 dollars. Not only did she sell a bag of treats, but she also sold some cute and colorful chew toys.

Everything Caroline accomplished paved the way to inspire people to help and protect the welfare of homeless dogs living in the shelters.
