A man in a rural Korean village was astonished to see a stray dog in his garage one day. She had settled in a box and had given birth to a single puppy.
It was winter at that time, so he felt sad for them. He permitted them to remain there until they got their strength back and the weather improved significantly.
Then he understood that the mother dog consistently abandoned her puppy. He was only a few days old and required the care of her mother. The man would then call the stray dog, which he named Dalsoon, but she would not return. Typically, he would observe her playing with other strays in the neighboring hill.
Concerned that something awful would happen to the puppy, he constructed a makeshift doghouse and placed him inside. In addition, he placed a heat pack near the dog because the weather was still extremely chilly.
Because of his mother’s absence, the puppy moaned and howled every time he was hungry. Thus, the man was required to purchase a particular formula and a bottle. He personally fed the dog every two hours. Although he was concerned for the safety of the puppy, he was growing impatient with the mother’s lack of concern for her offspring.
Sometimes he would yell at her to take care of her puppy. However, the dog would simply ignore him.
To urge the mother dog to return, he combined cooked chicken with dog food. Dalsoon returned after seeing the feast, but she was not alone. She brought her pals along, and they all consumed the chicken mixture. After the meal, they all departed once more.
This further frustrated the man, especially when he noticed the puppy’s runny nose. The unwilling surrogate father took him to the veterinarian, where he asked for advice.
According to the veterinarian, the dog may be ignoring his puppy due to a lack of oxytocin, a hormone that stimulates a mother’s maternal instincts. Therefore, the man searched for a dog that had recently given birth and stole the rags used during birthing. He soaked the rags in hot water and placed the resulting solution in a spray bottle. Afterward, he sprayed it within the doghouse and outside the garage.
The mother dog detected the hormone and returned to her youngster. She remained there thereafter and nurtured the young puppy. Hopefully, she will not abandon him once more.
