It’s been three months since the war between Russia and Ukraine began. The conflict between the two countries has affected thousands of lives, including the lives of innocent animals. While it’s hard to imagine their plight, we still cling to every story of hope, and Nessie’s story is one of those.

A video of a dog reuniting with her owner in Ukraine has recently circulated. The dog in the video is Nessie, a Siberian Husky from Bucha, a City in the region of Kyiv. She and her family separated during the height of Russia’s attack on the city.

Not knowing where to go, Nessie wandered around the streets of her hometown, not understanding why the once safe neighborhood became a place of fear and uncertainty. Eventually, Belarusian troops from the Kastus Kalinouski Battalion found Nessie wandering the streets of the City of Bucha near the region of Kyiv. The said battalion is a group from Belarus that stands with Ukraine in fighting against Russia.

At first, they assumed that Nessie was a stray dog and posted her on social media. But when they learned later that sh had a family, they did their best to locate her owner. The reunion took place in the parking lot of a supermarket. A video on Kastus Kalinouski Battalion’s Instagram shows Nessie running to her owner, who waited for her with open arms.

When the two finally met, Nessie was overjoyed. Her constant crying and whining sounded almost like a human being’s as if a child was asking his father why he left her.

This tremendous effort of the Belarusian troops to reunite one family received love all over social media. In one statement, they mentioned that as long as there are people who continue to treat animals the same way we treat other people, they will continue to fight for the lives of every human and animal. That statement is all we need to hear today. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Belarusian troops to protect the innocent lives of the people and animals of Ukraine.
