No one knew where this dog came from, but he was in terrible health. His skin condition was unbearable to look at and he was obviously a stray. The dog appeared out of nowhere in front of a convenience store in Phuket, Thailand. He appeared more desperate for assistance compared to other stray dogs.
When a woman saw him outside the store in such a terrible state, she called the local animal sanctuary, Soi Dog Foundation, to see if they could help. Soi Dog dispatched one of its animal rescue officers to bring the dog to the shelter.
Garwen was approximately eight years old at the time. Veterinarians inspected him and diagnosed him with demodectic mange. According to Maeve Henry, head of creative at the Soi Dog Foundation, the veterinarians discovered both living and dead demodex mites on Garwen’s body. The dog was also severely dehydrated and covered with bald patches and wounds from self-scratching.
Garwen was one of the numerous strays that Soi Dog cares for every month. Henry said that the dog was unhappy and didn’t have any appetite. He was also withdrawn and the staff believed that he would not survive.
It is really remarkable what a little amount of love, care, and medical therapy can do. Once Garwen began receiving treatment, he began to improve rapidly.
Garwen has made great strides. His skin ailment has been resolved and he has regrown his lovely fur. The painful scabs and dry, hairless spots on his body have disappeared. He now resembles a completely different dog. He has also become available for adoption.
He differs from other dogs since he does not enjoy running and playing. He is a gentleman and more reserved than other dogs. He will always sit in the corner against the wall and wait for people to approach him while the other dogs approach you. He’s nothing but a love bug.
