If you are a pet owner, I’m pretty sure you’ll understand when I say they are a family more than a pet. And just like any family, you want them to be part of special days such as your wedding day. But are you willing to move your wedding to your four-legged friend who is dying? Estelle Harris was sure that she will for her bull mastiff dog Bruce, and this is their story.

Estelle and Bruce’s story goes back to 5 years ago when Estelle adopted a then puppy, Bruce. They were inseparable right away and Bruce was truly a family for Estelle. She even refers to him as her “kid with four legs”, and according to Estelle, she loves him to the moon and back.

Bruce had been there through the greatest moments of Estelle’s life, he was even there when she met the man she fell in love with, Daniel Harris. Luckily, Daniel and Bruce got along well, and Estelle couldn’t be happier. And when they felt it was time to tie the knot and began planning their wedding, they were both sure that Bruce will play a part on it.

They got everything set up and the big date was on May 4, but amidst their happiness a storm nobody expected came. On December 2018 Bruce got sick and was brought to an emergency vet. After some tests, the doctor diagnosed him with pleural effusion and that he was in critical condition.

Bruce had more tests and a mass was in his chest. They did a seven-hour operation on Bruce to remove the tumor, and they needed to remove some ribs along the way too. They were able to take Bruce home after the operation. After almost two weeks though they received the worst news that Bruce has the worst kind of cancer, a dog can have.

Estelle and Daniel’s world fell apart. They were devastated to know Bruce will have to go soon. And what’s even worst is he won’t be able to become a part of their wedding. Estelle didn’t want to give up on Bruce though and wanted to do as much as possible before he rests. Estelle then decided to move their wedding. They had three weeks to do it and Estelle was determined to do it.

On February 2019, the lovely couple together with Bruce in his suit went to Burton’s registry office and tied the knot. The couple and Bruce were happy as they can be and though Bruce will not be by their side for long, they will always be in their hearts and always a part of their lives.
